Introductory/ refresher course in insight meditation: (9:00 – 10:15)

Do you have an incessant voice in your head - one that comments about everything all the time, one that criticizes everything you do, one that takes both sides of an argument and plays it out ad infinitum, one that refuses to take responsibility for bad advice and yet takes all responsibility when things work out well? Is it ever happy?

Insight Meditation is a simple and direct practice of moment-to-moment awareness; a mindfulness that helps to create a little quiet in our mind and body experiences. Through this practice we nurture the ability within ourselves to live more skillfully, enhancing our health and our relationships. By simply paying attention we can alleviate the stress in our lives, using difficult experiences for growth rather than suffering.

No previous meditation experience is necessary for this course yet if you’ve had a beginning course and haven’t been sitting regularly, you’ll find this course enriching and helpful.

Advanced class in insight meditation: (10:15 – 11:30)

In every spiritual tradition, there are certain qualities of heart and mind that are cultivated to be able to live skillfully in this life. As our meditation practice deepens, we often find that these qualities of life arise on their own and help point out where we might be stuck in old habits and patterns. This class will explore the qualities of generosity, virtue, patience, energy, contemplation and wisdom from a meditative perspective.

Students should have a regular sitting practice.

Students from either class may join the other if they desire.
